The documentary brings to light fascinating stories about climate action, strategies for adaptation and mitigation in Aotearoa. These stories are recorded by a mother who set out on a journey to mobilise practical climate action and inspire policy change in favour of people and the planet. This leads to the realisation that collective grassroots action with a bottom-up approach can make a positive difference to the climate crisis. She then steers towards reclaiming and expanding ‘climate commons’, the parts of our managed environment, resources and infrastructure that are owned publicly and managed collectively with evenly distributed benefits.

Climate Action through Education, Technology, and Wellbeing

At Climate Commons, we are committed to addressing the climate crisis through three key pillars: climate education, cutting-edge technology, and mental health. By empowering communities with knowledge, innovation, and emotional resilience, we are creating a sustainable and hopeful future for all.

Climate Education

We empower communities with knowledge about climate change through research, education, and developing resilience tool kits in collaboration with experts. We offer accessible resources to build resilience  while inspiring global action through initiatives like our  documentary film Climate Commons.

Climate Tech

We promote innovative technologies to tackle climate change. By supporting clean energy solutions, sustainable practices, and scalable tech, we help communities access the tools they need to adapt, mitigate, and drive environmental protection for a sustainable future.

Mental Health

We offers eco-therapy programs to address eco-anxiety and stress caused by climate change. In partnership with mental health professionals, we help individuals heal, reconnect with nature, and build emotional resilience, empowering them to face climate challenges with hope.

Climate Education

At Climate Commons, we are deeply committed to fostering climate awareness and education across communities. Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to understand and address the urgent climate crisis. We collaborate with climate scientists , researchers and healthcare professionals to provide the most accurate, up-to-date information, and use educational tools that bring  climate science into clear focus.

Our work includes developing toolkits, sharing resources such as documentaries, research papers, and online materials that are easily accessible to the public. These tools support community resilience-building efforts by helping individuals and local organisations understand the challenges they face, while also equipping them with practical solutions.

One of our most impactful initiatives is the documentary Climate Commons.

Climate Tech

Climate Commons is a strong advocate for the role of technology in solving the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. We believe that cutting-edge innovation can drive real, scalable solutions to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

By fostering collaborations between tech entrepreneurs, scientists, sustainability experts and healthcare professionals we are working to bring forward new technologies that can address issues such as carbon emissions, renewable energy generation, and resource management. Our goal is to ensure that these technologies are accessible to communities, particularly those who are disproportionately affected by climate change.

Whether it’s the development of sustainable energy solutions, or harnessing data analytics to improve climate resilience, Climate Commons is at the forefront of bringing practical tech solutions. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, we are helping launch the next generation of climate tech innovations that will have a lasting impact.

As the world turns to green technologies, we are determined to collaborate with startups and research teams that align with our mission. We firmly believe that technology, when aligned with sustainability goals, is a powerful tool for change in the fight against climate change.

Climate Change & Mental Health

We acknowledge that mental and emotional strength is just as crucial as physical and environmental preparedness in the fight against climate change. As the climate crisis worsens, many experience feelings of anxiety, fear, and helplessness- emotions that can hinder our collective ability to act. We believe addressing these psychological effects is just as important as addressing the environmental ones.

That is why we are collaborating with psychologists and healthcare professionals to offer eco-therapy programs to those struggling with eco-anxiety and other climate-related stressors. These therapeutic practices help individuals reconnect with nature, cope with climate-related distress, and develop the emotional resilience necessary to face the challenges ahead.

Our eco-therapy programs focus on mindfulness, nature immersion, and supportive community activities, all designed to promote emotional well-being and strengthen mental health in the face of the climate crisis. We aim to create a safe space for individuals to process their feelings, share experiences, and build connections with others who are similarly affected.

By integrating mental health and climate action, Climate Commons is leading a holistic approach to resilience.

Te kete mātauranga

Climate Commons welcomes the growing Māori voice and indigenous knowledge. We recognise climate change as a global problem with local solutions. We are solidly grounded in the indigenous principles of ‘Kaitiakitanga’ and ‘Mātauranga Māori’ in safeguarding our natural resources. We tap into the knowledge and wisdom of  Māori, their intuition and intellect in order to sustainably protect and care for our land, sea and sky.
