Our Campaigns

Through our campaigns we aim to mobilise credible climate action in New Zealand among individuals, communities, businesses and policy makers.

Reaching 350!

With this campaign we aim to raise awareness around the importance of getting atmospheric carbon count to 350ppm and creating a safe climate future. Participants are encouraged to travel 350km in whatever carbon free way they wish, running, walking, biking, swimming and the like.

Climate Art Challenge

“Artists must confront the climate crisis, we must act as if these are the last days” – Ben Okri

Climate Art Challenge

Art and creative practices have the potential to challenge current thinking on climate change and present new ways of solving problems. Climate Commons wants to challenge New Zealand artists of all ages to respond to climate change through creative expressions, integrating practical, indigenous, personal and political dimensions of climate change in their works.

Submissions to ‘Climate Art Challenge’ can be made through the medium of dance, music, theatre or any other performance art. Register and submit a short video (up to 5min) of your creative expression below.

The entries will be evaluated by senior artists and climate scientists for creativity, originality, and relevance to the following themes:

  1. Maori/Pacific theme (Indigenous expressions and messages on climate change conveyed through artistic performance)
  2. Water/ Fire/ Sky theme (Personal expressions on these elements and their connection with climate change)

Five select entries will be featured on our digital media channels. Your creative expressions will not only bring awareness to the challenges faced due to climate change but also convey what a vision for the future can entail, and why it is important to act now.
